Some of the warmest celebrations happen in rooms that belong to a neighbourhood. West Arthur Community Centre is that kind of place, a well-kept community hub where friends and family can gather around long tables and simply enjoy one another.
The Centre is located in Thunder Bay, just 3 minutes past Canadian Tire on Arthur Street, and is operated by the City of Thunder Bay. It is fully accessible, with ample parking and a playground on site.
The main space is the Arthur Hall, which seats approximately 175 to 200 guests with tables and chairs, or around 140 when a dance floor is added. It includes a coat room and a serving area with a sink and access to a large cooler for food and beverages.
For smaller gatherings, the West Arthur Room accommodates up to about 25 people, and the Craft Room comfortably holds 8 to 10, which could suit a quiet family meal or a bit of preparation before the main event.
A full-service commercial kitchen can be added to a rental, complete with two ovens, elements, a flat top grill, a commercial dishwasher and generous counter space. Dishware and eating utensils are available for renters, so couples and families can bring in the meal they have in mind.
Renters can also request a Bluetooth speaker and microphone and a projector, which can be helpful for speeches, a slideshow or music.
The city describes the Arthur Hall as well suited to alcohol-free events, and its former bar area now serves as the serving area, something to keep in mind when planning a reception here.
For couples who picture a relaxed, community-style celebration in Thunder Bay with room for family, food and dancing, West Arthur Community Centre offers a welcoming hall and the practical pieces to make it their own.
