Some weddings begin with a boat ride. Guests step aboard on the mainland, cross the water, and arrive on an island where the rest of the world feels very far away.
The Camp at Waupoos Island is a seasonal, boat-access-only property in Prince Edward County, covering almost 14 acres with over 1,000 feet of shoreline. Staff meet guests at the public dock beside the Waupoos Marina, where mainland parking is provided, and ferry everyone to the island.
The camp offers small, relaxed, back-to-nature weddings for up to approximately 50 people, with couples having use of the entire property for the wedding weekend.
An old chapel, once part of a Catholic church camp, now serves as the camp's common room and can host intimate wedding ceremonies. The renovated Dormitory adds a communal kitchen and a small hall that seats approximately 40.
Wedding packages are all-inclusive, and each one is tailored to the couple, including flowers, accent colours, the menu, an optional signature cocktail and the ceremony and reception locations.
Guests stay in the camp's seven three-bedroom cottages, all included with a wedding booking.
There is no WiFi and no television, which is part of the charm. Days can be spent kayaking, swimming to the floating dock or gathering around the campfire, and several wineries are a short drive from the marina.
For couples who dream of a small island wedding where everyone stays together and the lake shapes every hour, The Camp at Waupoos Island offers a weekend that feels like a true escape.
