A garden wedding is a celebration shaped by the season itself: the colour of the blooms, the shade of the trees and paths waiting to be explored between the vows and the dinner.
The University of Alberta Botanic Garden is located 5 kilometres north of Devon on Highway 60 in Parkland County, with both indoor and outdoor spaces for celebrations of every size.
Popular ceremony sites include the Wedding Patio beside Grebe Pond, with flower gardens and a wooden bridge, for up to 250 guests. The Amphitheatre, a woodland bowl with built-in granite seating beside the Aga Khan Garden, also welcomes up to 250 for weddings.
The Alpine Garden can host ceremonies for up to 250 guests among alpine plants and rocky elevations, while the Kurimoto Japanese Garden offers ceremonies on the Upper Azumaya Hill for 100 guests or fewer.
For receptions, the award-winning Diwan overlooks the Aga Khan Garden and seats up to 160 for a banquet, with a rooftop terrace. The Pine Pavilion, just steps from the Wedding Patio, seats up to 180, and the Lilac Tent offers a relaxed setting for up to 70.
The Garden welcomes cultural traditions too, from intimate garden pavilions for private tea ceremonies or Nikah vows to open outdoor spaces for extended families and larger celebrations.
Admission and free parking are included for all guests, staff help direct everyone to the site, and ceremony couples can use available garden spaces for photos, with the indoor showhouses as a backup if it rains.
For couples who picture vows among gardens and a celebration that lingers in beautiful surroundings, the University of Alberta Botanic Garden offers settings as varied as the seasons.
