The University Women's Club of Vancouver at Hycroft

Some houses seem made for vows, with graceful rooms, garden paths and more than a century of history in every doorway.

Hycroft, a 115-year-old Edwardian heritage building in Vancouver's Shaughnessy neighbourhood, has been home to The University Women's Club of Vancouver since 1962. It sits about five minutes from the downtown core.

Inside, hand-carved marble fireplaces, original crown mouldings and French doors set the tone. The Grand Ballroom adds gold chandeliers, back-lit stained glass and a hand-sprung dance floor.

Ceremonies can take place indoors in the Drawing Room or the Green Solarium, or outside in the Rose Garden for up to approximately 120 seated guests, on the Terrace for up to around 110, or at the Juliette Balcony for up to about 50.

For dinner, the Ballroom and the Terrace can each host up to approximately 120 guests, while the Drawing Room suits up to around 60.

The Evelyn Farris and Lett Suites on the second level are provided for the couple and wedding party to get ready before the ceremony.

Hycroft's own serving and bar staff look after the event, and whole-house rentals include ceremony and reception seating setup, staff to greet vendors and deliveries, and a complimentary one-hour rehearsal for the immediate wedding party.

Because Hycroft sits in a residential neighbourhood, all events conclude by 11:00 p.m. Limited parking is available.
