Tattingstone Inn

A wedding at Tattingstone Inn feels like gathering your favourite people at a gracious old country house in the middle of Nova Scotia's wine country.

The inn sits on Main Street in Wolfville. Its heart is Thompson House, an Italianate farmhouse built in 1874 that was once home to a town mayor and later to an architect who designed many of the province's public buildings. It opened as an inn in 1987, named for a small English village in the founder's family history.

Today the property spans three buildings joined by a stone courtyard: Thompson House, the Carriage House and the newer Magnolia House. A covered veranda with a stone entrance looks out over manicured gardens.

For celebrations, the grounds and a covered post and beam pavilion lend themselves to cocktail receptions and photographs, and the inn's own bistro handles the dinner. Menus are built around seasonal, local ingredients and can be tailored to the couple, along with the room layout.

After the meal, guests can settle into the Prohibition Lounge with its custom bar. With 21 rooms and luxury suites on site, the wedding party can stay together, and a suite makes an easy honeymoon start.
