Some places are best known for the way the day ends. At Slake Brewing, it is the sunset, spreading across Prince Edward County from the top of a limestone hill.
Slake is a small farm brewery in the County. Guests follow the signs through the fields, up the hill and through the forest, and the brewery reveals itself at the top, with panoramic views that make the drive part of the experience.
The brewery offers its space for private events, weddings, corporate retreats and laid-back celebrations on select dates. It is especially well suited to intimate weddings, rehearsal dinners and family celebrations where the setting does much of the talking.
There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating between the taproom and the outdoor spaces. Pigs, sheep, chickens and cats can be spotted from the patio and taproom, and horses greet guests on the drive in, giving the day a relaxed, working-farm feel.
Beer is at the centre of things here, with balanced, drinkable lagers and ales built for the patio, alongside small-batch barrel-aged sours from the cellar. Local wine, cider, seltzer and non-alcoholic options round out the bar.
The on-site kitchen is run by Rebel Taco, which serves Tex-Mex inspired dishes. The brewery also has accessible parking, power door operators and an accessible washroom.
A couple might gather everyone on the patio as the light starts to change, raise a glass of something brewed just steps away and let the evening stretch out over the fields.
For couples who picture a small, easygoing County celebration with farm views, local beer and one of the best sunsets around, Slake Brewing offers a setting that feels both rustic and wonderfully unhurried.
