Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site

At Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site, a small wedding takes place inside the 1911 brick mansion that Alberta's first Premier called home, with a grand staircase and rich dark wood all around.

Alexander Cameron Rutherford and his wife Mattie moved into the house near the university campus in 1911 and hosted friends, family and well known Edmontonians there for decades. Today the restored post-Edwardian home sits on Saskatchewan Drive above the river valley, surrounded by gardens.

The house hosts weddings and civil ceremonies for up to 55 guests. Its large open rooms are already furnished in period style, so couples need little extra decoration.

Events are usually held after museum hours, and the staff set up tables, chairs and the bar area. Each booking includes access to the museum and an interpreter who can answer guests' questions about the family and the home. Couples bring their own caterer and arrange their own liquor licence.

A few free parking stalls sit right in front of the house, with more parking nearby.
