Some celebrations feel best in a place that already belongs to the community. At the Bronte Legion, a wedding party joins a long story of neighbours gathering, raising a glass and looking out for one another.
Branch 486 sits on the corner of Jones Street and Marine Drive, right in the heart of Bronte in Oakville. Chartered in 1948 by a group of 15 local men, the branch later took the name of Brigadier-General Chris Vokes, and its members still like to call it the friendliest Legion branch.
For private celebrations, the branch offers Victory Hall, a newly renovated space for event rentals that holds up to 120 seated guests. It is handicap accessible and comes with a fully stocked bar and kitchen availability, giving couples the practical pieces for a relaxed reception.
The newly renovated Clubroom is also available on Saturdays and at some other times, and the patio can occasionally be booked as well, offering a little more room for guests to mingle.
A couple might picture a casual evening reception with familiar faces, a lively dance floor and toasts that carry on long into the night.
Membership is not required to attend functions, so every guest is welcome through the door, whether they live down the street or have travelled in for the day.
The events team can be reached by email for rental details and availability.
For couples who picture a warm, unpretentious celebration in a long-standing community hall in the heart of Bronte, the Bronte Legion offers a welcoming room, a full bar and the friendly spirit of one of Oakville's long-standing gathering places.
