About
Prince of Wales Armouries

A wedding at the Prince of Wales Armouries in Edmonton unfolds beside a glowing gas fireplace, under original rosewood beams in a drill hall that has stood for more than a century.

The building was completed in 1915 as the Edmonton Drill Hall and trained soldiers for the Department of National Defence until 1977, serving regiments including the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. It took its present name in 1921 and passed to the City of Edmonton in 1982, which renovated it as the home of the City of Edmonton Archives.

Weddings take place in the Governor's Room on the second floor. Its hardwood maple floors, rosewood wainscoting and trim, soft overhead lighting and fireplace give the room a warm, historic feel. The room holds up to 100 guests.

The West Terrace pairs with the Governor's Room, and couples can book a ceremony, a reception or both together. Ceremonies are held on weekends, and receptions can run into the late evening.

Couples choose their own caterer, and the city can share a list of caterers who already know the building. A bar is possible with a liquor permit and certified servers. To protect the heritage spaces, dancing happens in the main floor rotunda or out on the West Terrace.

The Armouries sits in central Edmonton, close to the Kingsway/RAH transit centre and LRT station, with free parking on site.

For couples who picture vows in a room full of Edmonton history, warmed by firelight and old wood, the Prince of Wales Armouries offers an intimate wedding with real heritage character.
