There is something about a celebration on the water. The city skyline slides past, the breeze comes off Lake Ontario and every photograph seems to have a view behind it.

Pioneer Cruises has been hosting events on Toronto's waterfront since 1986, sailing from its dock and specializing in private charters for both big and small events.

The fleet gives couples a choice of scale. The Pioneer Princess has a maximum capacity of 150 guests, the Pioneer Queen up to 200, and the Pioneer Borealis up to 250.

The vessels are certified by Transport Canada with licensed navigational staff and feature open decks, panoramic windows, a large dance floor, fully licensed bars, climate control and sound and lighting for the evening. The Pioneer Queen also has a retractable roof.

Weddings, rehearsal dinners, wedding proposals and henna parties are all part of the social events the company hosts, and sample packages include a South Asian wedding package.

Catering comes from the onboard team, with multi-cuisine menus, and charters typically include staff, an in-house DJ and an event coordinator to help shape the day.

Because the boats are climate controlled, Pioneer sails through the seasons, weather permitting, and also hosts winter dockside events overlooking the harbour.
