There is something about northern Ontario light filtering through tall trees that makes a wedding feel calm and unhurried. At Nipissing University, couples can bring that landscape right into their day.
NU Weddings is the wedding program of Nipissing University in North Bay, offering the chance to exchange vows outdoors in the natural beauty of northern landscapes or indoors in a modern, elegantly appointed event space.
The NUSU Student Centre in North Bay is the heart of the indoor offering. This modern building hosts weddings and social gatherings and provides seating for around 180 guests, with standing room for up to approximately 700. Its features include a lobby, bar space, lounge, art gallery and on-site catering.
Couples can choose an indoor ceremony inside the Student Centre, an outdoor ceremony on its grounds, a wedding reception using the centre's food services, or a combined package that keeps both the ceremony and reception in one place.
For an outdoor ceremony with a different feel, the Monastery Grounds in North Bay are set on 22 acres of scenic forest. The grounds are booked for ceremonies and photos, can welcome up to approximately 200 guests outside, and include parking for up to 50 cars, on-site washroom access, an electrical outlet by the pond and a weekend-long booking with early access for a rehearsal.
Couples who only need a beautiful backdrop can also reserve the Monastery Grounds for photographs.
Travelling guests have options close by too. From mid-May to early August, Chancellors House and Governors House offer apartment-style suites with kitchens, living areas and air conditioning, making it easy for family to stay close.
Nipissing University staff, faculty, students and alumni receive a discount on the Monastery Grounds fee, a thoughtful touch for couples whose story began on campus.
For couples who want forest, a pond and northern scenery alongside a modern reception space, NU Weddings offers a celebration that moves gracefully between the outdoors and the indoors.
