Some wedding venues have a story to tell. This one gathers Muskoka's boats, lakes and heritage under one roof.
The Muskoka Discovery Centre sits on Steamship Bay Road in Gravenhurst, where guests can celebrate among rare artifacts, vintage wooden boats and a full-scale replica of the iconic R.M.S. Segwun. Since opening in 2006, it has become a year-round setting for weddings, rehearsal dinners and celebrations of every size.
The Great Hall is the centre of a larger wedding. Bright and spacious, with high ceilings, natural light and waterfront access, it can be set for up to approximately 200 guests at banquet-style tables or around 112 in theatre seating. A 16 x 9 foot LED screen is available for slideshows or digital backdrops.
Next door, the Greavette Room holds up to around 60 guests on its own. When booked with the Great Hall, collapsible doors open between the two, so the room can become a private bar area or dance floor.
The Centre can be reserved for a ceremony and reception, or for the reception alone. Smaller moments have their own places too: the Rendezvous Room, and the Evolving Muskoka and Misko-Aki exhibits, which suit cocktail parties and intimate gatherings.
For couples who want the lake to be part of the day, a combined package with Muskoka Steamships pairs a ceremony cruise on Lake Muskoka aboard the R.M.S. Segwun or Wenonah II with dinner and an evening reception back at the Centre. The historic Wanda III, with room for about 20 to 30 guests, sails in August and September and can host an elegant rehearsal dinner or pre-wedding cocktail reception.
The facility is fully licensed, and the rental includes bartenders and a stocked standard bar, an event coordinator and staff throughout the ceremony and reception, evening security, full setup and takedown including your décor, standard tables and chairs, and a sound system with microphone and podium. The team is happy to recommend caterers and a rental company for linens and tableware.
The building is fully accessible, with an elevator and ample parking, and every event here also supports the not-for-profit organization's work preserving Muskoka's heritage.
For couples who picture vows on the water, dinner among classic boats and a celebration steeped in Muskoka history, the Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre offers a wedding unlike any ordinary banquet hall.
