Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site

At Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site, a wedding can begin in a quiet clearing of oak trees on the banks of the Red River, with the stone walls of a fur trade fort close by.

The site sits about 30 minutes north of Winnipeg and is home to the oldest stone fur trading fort in North America. Its tended historic grounds and riverside setting give couples both history and nature in one place.

Ceremony spots are spread across the property, from secluded spots along the river to the historic fort itself. Some of the heritage buildings can hold small ceremonies of fewer than 50 guests, and the Multi-Purpose Room or Theatre serves as a backup if it rains.

For receptions, the banquet room in the modern Visitor Centre seats up to 100 for dinner. Larger celebrations can move into a marquee tent or the picnic shelter near the Visitor Centre, and the on-site restaurant can be booked privately for groups of 90 or fewer.

Parks Canada staff look after couples on the day. Events wrap up by 10 pm, and celebrations with alcohol need licensed security and certified servers, though restaurant events are exempt from these rules. Engagement and wedding photo sessions on the grounds can also be arranged.
