Some places carry their history quietly. Johnston Hall carries it in brick walls and well over a century of history.
The hall stands in Smiths Falls, in a Victorian period two-storey brick schoolhouse built in 1884. Today the hall accepts bookings in its clubroom, dining hall and grounds for parties, conferences and weddings, with spacious grounds for additional guests.
The dining hall is the heart of a celebration here. With hardwood floors, wooden tables and stacking chairs, it can host up to 88 guests, making it well suited to an intimate dinner where everyone can hear the toasts.
An attached commercial-rated galley kitchen opens directly into the dining hall, with two stove-top ovens, a fridge, a deep freeze and generous counter space for the people preparing the meal.
Just off the main entrance, the carpeted clubroom offers a quieter setting with a smart TV and a seating area, along with an accessible washroom nearby.
Outside, a spacious front lawn slopes gently away from the building toward George Street. The hall describes the grounds as ideal for outdoor weddings, receptions and parties, giving couples room to spill outdoors on a fine day.
Practical details are covered too. A paved lot holds approximately 20 vehicles, with free overflow parking on nearby streets, and an accessible ramp leads to the main floor entrance. Wi-Fi, a barbecue, a smart TV and pedestals are available, and help with set-up and take-down can be arranged.
For couples who want a small, personal celebration inside a building with genuine heritage in the heart of Smiths Falls, Johnston Hall offers a warm and unpretentious setting where the focus stays on the people in the room.
