About
Ireland House Museum

Some places carry their history lightly, in the shade of old trees and the creak of a porch. Ireland House Museum is one of them.

Built between 1835 and 1837, Ireland House at Oakridge Farm was the home of Joseph Ireland, one of Burlington's earliest settlers, and his descendants lived there until 1985. Today the City of Burlington operates it as a museum, with the homestead restored to reflect the 1850s, 1890s and 1920s.

The grounds offer a four-acre, park-like refuge surrounded by tall trees, and there are several ceremony locations to choose from. Couples can say their vows beside towering walnut trees, beneath a 200-year-old mulberry tree, or on the front porch of the 19th-century house, with its simple Georgian-style elegance as a backdrop.

The grounds also suit a relaxed family and friends gathering. Tents are permitted, and couples bring in their own tables, chairs and decor, which leaves plenty of freedom to style the day.

Photography is a particular strength. The Summer Kitchen and Wood Shed, wagon wheels and the Cottage and Drive Shed all date to the 1830s and 1840s, offering rustic, architectural and historical backdrops across the property.

Dogs are welcome too, so a four-legged member of the family can be part of the pictures.

For smaller gatherings or a rehearsal, the Helen Ireland Caldwell Program Room in the Interpretive Centre comfortably accommodates up to 25 people, with the use of a small adjoining servery with a sink and work area.

Venue rentals are available Sunday to Saturday, based on availability, and are arranged through the Museums of Burlington.

For couples who want to marry outdoors among heritage trees and a historic farmhouse, Ireland House Museum offers a quiet, green setting with a story that reaches back almost two centuries.
