Some vows feel made for a high wooden ceiling, a long centre aisle and music that seems to fill every corner of the room.
Humbercrest United Church in Toronto's Baby Point area, describes itself as an open, inclusive and affirming community that is honoured to support couples in creating a ceremony that reflects their relationship and values.
The Sanctuary seats up to approximately 500 guests. Its architecture, centre aisle and vaulted wood ceiling create acoustically exceptional sound for music and spoken words, and it is wheelchair, walker and stroller accessible.
Couples can work with the church's minister, or engage their own officiant, elder or celebrant in consultation with the church. Music, readings and personal touches are encouraged.
For gathering afterwards, the church's halls offer room to celebrate. The recently renovated Heritage Hall features a beautiful wood floor, a 1913 Steinway piano and stained glass windows, and the church lists it for wedding receptions.
The bright East Hall accommodates up to approximately 180 people and opens onto the large main kitchen, making it well suited to group dinners. The West Hall, with a stage, wood floor and high ceiling, accommodates up to around 150.
Contracts, insurance and bookings are arranged through the Church Office, and couples are invited to view the spaces before deciding.
For couples who picture a ceremony with warm wood, rich acoustics and an inclusive community around them, Humbercrest United Church offers a historic sanctuary with welcoming spaces to celebrate afterwards.
