Fort William Historical Park

At Fort William Historical Park, a wedding can begin with a grand canoe arrival on the Kaministiquia River and a cannon salute for the newlyweds.

This living history site in Thunder Bay offers both contemporary and heritage spaces, and local readers have voted it one of the city's best places to marry, indoors and out.

For a small ceremony, couples can choose a landscaped pond beside the Kaministiquia River. Larger weddings gather in McGillivray's Landing, which seats 375 or hosts 500 for a reception, with windows on three sides and a tiered deck above the river and fountain pond.

Canot du Nord, a heritage structure on the historic site, has a fireplace and wood panelled ceiling and welcomes up to 80 seated. The David Thompson Courtyard pairs an indoor room for about 60 with an outdoor space for up to 500 and a long outdoor gas fireplace.

Optional touches include costumed interpreters and musicians, a musket salute, tours of the historic site, stargazing programs and a guest shuttle. All food and drinks are prepared by the park's on site caterer, and heritage houses on the main square offer simple group accommodation.
