Some weddings feel best when the forest is close and the lake is only a few steps away.
Falcon Trails Resort is tucked in the woods at Falcon Beach, between Winnipeg and Kenora, less than two hours from either city yet far from the routines of everyday life. The resort describes its setting as rustic yet elegant, and welcomes weddings both big and small.
The ceremony site sits steps away from views of the lake and the boreal forest, a natural backdrop for exchanging vows.
Receptions centre on the Ski Chalet, a vintage 1960s building where a large stone fireplace anchors the room and a bank of windows looks out onto the grassy slopes that become ski runs in winter. It has an indoor capacity of 150 and can seat around 90 guests for a reception.
Outside, the spacious lawn can hold a 40 by 80 foot tent, and the chalet adds a commercial kitchen, a back deck barbecue and a fire pit. The space is accessible, with multi-stall washrooms and a gender neutral accessible washroom.
Next to the chalet, the Yurt is a favourite for smaller groups of up to approximately 62.
Family and friends can stay on site in lakefront cabins with full kitchens, fireplaces and hot tubs. The eleven cabins together hold 58 guests.
Between celebrations there are more than 25 kilometres of trails for hiking and biking, along with complimentary canoes for guests. The Groups and Events Coordinator helps couples tour the grounds and plan their event.
For couples who picture vows by the lake, a reception around a stone fireplace and loved ones staying in cabins among the trees, Falcon Trails Resort offers a wedding that feels like a weekend in the woods.
