At Clyde Hall, a small wedding takes place at a stone mansion from 1846, with the Clyde River running behind the gardens and the whole house reserved for the people closest to the couple.
This historic bed and breakfast stands in Lanark Village. It was built by the Caldwell family, whose son William Clyde Caldwell served for many years as the local member of the provincial legislature and gave his name to a railway engine. Today the house is known for its comfort, and a national newspaper has named it one of the best romantic getaways.
Couples can hold an outdoor ceremony on the grounds at no extra cost, bringing their own seating and decor, or an indoor ceremony for up to 24 guests. A golf course fairway borders the property, and the river view makes a peaceful backdrop.
For a whole-house wedding booking, the couple's group has all six rooms, including three suites and a three-bedroom family loft, plus exclusive use of the grounds, the salt water pool and the hot tub. Photographers and hair and makeup teams are welcome to come in while everyone gets ready.
The resident master pastry chef has made wedding cakes for more than 25 years and offers them at a discount to whole-house bookings. Breakfast is included for everyone staying, and the morning after, the house serves an elegant brunch where a few extra guests can join.
Inside, guests can gather by the fireplace and record player in the living room or in the bright solarium. Lanark Village is a short walk away, and Perth, Almonte, trails and conservation areas are close by, with Ottawa and Kingston within an easy drive.
For couples who picture an intimate ceremony by the river and a weekend in a historic stone house with only their dearest people, Clyde Hall offers a wedding that feels like coming home.
