Some love stories deserve a setting with a history of its own. Waverley Place, built in 1847, carries more than a century and a half of stories within its walls.
Operated by Clarington Library, Museums & Archives in Bowmanville, this historically designated home features a lavish Edwardian interior with furnished period rooms, surrounded by extensive gardens and grounds.
Waverley Place is offered as an intimate setting for wedding ceremonies and wedding photography. Small ceremonies of up to 15 people can be held inside the restored historic parlour.
For a larger guest list, ceremonies can move outdoors to the large veranda or the surrounding grounds, which can welcome up to approximately 100 people.
Inside, couples will find beautiful places for photographs: the historic parlour, a furnished period dining room, an exquisite staircase and upper hallway, and a glass conservatory.
The museum provides the venue itself, so tables, chairs, tents and decorations are arranged by the couple. Washroom access can be arranged at the Sarah Jane Williams Museum on the same property, and museum staff are on site during bookings to care for the historic building and its artifacts.
The house is kept smoke, food and alcohol free indoors, candles and open flames are not permitted, and confetti and flower petals are kept outside, which helps protect the collection for the couples who will follow.
A couple might say their vows in the parlour with only their closest family around them, then step out to the veranda and gardens for photographs in the afternoon light.
For couples who dream of a small, meaningful ceremony surrounded by history, Waverley Place offers a setting that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
We never use a venue’s photos without permission.
