Some of the warmest weddings happen in community spaces, where the focus is simply on the people in the room, the food on the tables and the music that keeps everyone dancing.
The Castlegreen Community Centre is part of Castlegreen Co-operative in Thunder Bay. Its hall is available to rent for weddings, shags, birthday parties and large family dinners at an affordable cost.
The main hall can seat up to approximately 100 people. Renters have use of 86 upholstered chairs, with additional wooden chairs available on request, along with 18 round tables and 5 long rectangular tables.
Couples who like to do things their own way will appreciate the kitchen. Hall rentals include full access to the entire kitchen, complete with a large fridge, microwave, two stoves, a dishwasher, coffee urns, hot chafing dishes, utensils and dishes, so family recipes or a favourite caterer can easily be part of the day.
The hall also offers a stereo system, podium, projector screen and a microphone on request, useful for speeches, slideshows and first dances.
For celebrations with alcohol, renters obtain a Special Occasion Permit, and the co-operative provides two Smart Serve certified bartenders.
A smaller space called the Sunset Room, set with a board table and seating for 10, suits a quiet planning meeting or a small family gathering.
For couples who want a welcoming, practical hall in Thunder Bay where they can bring their own style, food and people together, Castlegreen Co-operative offers a celebration rooted in community.
