Some weddings feel like a weekend everyone will talk about for years. At Camp Eden Woods, the celebration unfolds beside Elephant Lake, with sunrises and sunsets over the water.
Set on a 70-acre lakefront property in the Haliburton Highlands, at the southern edge of Algonquin Park, Eden Woods Retreat Centre has hosted weddings since its first year as a summer camp, founded in 2012 by Lior and Sharon Gluzberg.
Ceremonies can take place at outdoor sites across the property, with indoor spaces such as the cozy Lodge, the Nest or the Cave ready if the weather turns.
The rustic Lodge, once a gathering place for fishermen and hunters, now welcomes groups of up to 170 for meals overlooking the lake. The Nest, a few minutes' walk from the main camp beside one of the property's natural ponds, offers a quieter setting with 360-degree fly wire.
For the reception, couples can decorate one of the indoor buildings in their own colours, or rent a pole tent for a more garden-style celebration.
Catering is included in the package, with breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the stay, and the kitchen is flexible about guests' needs.
Guests can stay right on site. Nine large lake-view cabins and seven smaller bunkies offer more than 160 beds, with electricity, hot water, showers and bathrooms, and the cabins have front porches overlooking Elephant Lake.
Packages include exclusive use of the property along with canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards, and guests can swim, hike, gather around a campfire or try the high ropes course and archery.
For couples who picture a lakeside weekend with everyone together, Camp Eden Woods offers a wedding that feels like summer camp for grown-ups, with the people you love close by.
