There is something special about a hall that has been part of a village for more than 175 years. Broad Cove Hall was built in 1850, and it has been a polling station, a supper hall and a gathering place ever since.
The hall stands in Broad Cove, in Lunenburg County on Nova Scotia's South Shore, a few minutes' walk up from Broad Cove Beach. It is owned by the Broad Cove Community Association, a volunteer-led charity, and it is rented each year for weddings, concerts, parties and more.
The main floor has a wood floor, a stage at one end and a bar at the other. Along one whole side, a wall of folding and sliding glass doors opens onto the cove, so on a fine evening the room can be turned to face the water. Decks at the side and back give guests room to spill outside.
Upstairs are the kitchen and dining room, with a deck running the length of the front that looks out to the LaHave Islands. The kitchen is well equipped, with two stoves, cutlery for well over a hundred, and plenty of glassware, so couples can bring their own food and caterers.
Occupancy is set by the Fire Marshal. The lower level holds up to 76 guests with tables and chairs, 95 with seating only, or 58 when alcohol is served. The upper level holds 70 with tables and chairs, 88 with seating only, or 50 with alcohol. Twelve drawn floor plans help couples see how tables, a band or a dance floor will fit.
The hall provides 120 chairs, chair covers and a mix of tables, and a projector screen is available on request. Outside there is a fire pit, picnic tables, swings and a beach volleyball court, and the main floor is fully accessible with level entry and an accessible washroom.
Every rental supports the Association's work caring for the hall and Broad Cove Beach, which gives a celebration here a quiet connection to the community itself.
For couples who want a seaside wedding with history, character and room to make it their own, Broad Cove Hall offers a warm, welcoming gathering place beside the cove.
