At Anvil Centre, a wedding unfolds in a bright, airy ballroom in the heart of downtown New Westminster, framed by fir exterior walls and modern architecture.
Run by the City of New Westminster, Anvil Centre is a cultural and conference hub in British Columbia's first capital, a close-knit city where historic streets sit beside new ones. The building also houses a museum, archives, galleries and a theatre.
The ballroom is the heart of a wedding here. Movable partitions let it grow or shrink to suit the guest list, from about 50 guests up to 430 seated at round tables of ten, or close to 740 for a standing reception. Couples can book the full ballroom or its East, West or North sections.
Each booking comes with a long list of essentials: professional event managers to help plan the day, a catering team to guide menu choices, a menu tasting for two, host or cash bar service, banquet tables and chairs, white linens, a riser for the head table and a 20 by 20 foot dance floor.
There is also a private room with its own washroom for getting ready, a podium and microphone tied into the house sound system, housekeeping, building security and a duty manager on the day. A roster of trusted partners can help with flowers, photography, music and more.
Getting here is easy. The New Westminster SkyTrain station sits right across the street, less than 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver, and three bridges link the city to the region's major highways. A nearby hotel offers rooms that hang out over the Fraser River.
Between the celebrations, guests can wander the antique shops of Antique Alley, browse the boutiques along Columbia Street, or join a walking or riverboat tour.
