Walkerville Distillery House

A wedding does not always need a ballroom.

Sometimes what you really want is a beautiful old house, a private garden, your favourite people staying nearby and an entire weekend that feels as though it belongs only to you.

That is the idea behind the Historic Walkerville Distillery House.

Located in Windsor's Walkerville neighbourhood, the property dates to 1884 and is part of a collection of carefully restored heritage homes operated by Distillery Homes. The Distillery House itself retains heritage character including exposed brick and high ceilings, while offering modern amenities, outdoor patios, a garden and spaces designed for guests to actually live in rather than simply pass through.

The property is now specifically offered for private weddings and wedding weekends.

Rather than booking a few hours in an event hall, couples can take over the estate and build the celebration around the garden and heritage homes. The venue describes the property as exclusively available to the wedding group for the weekend, creating a much more private experience than a traditional venue hosting several events around the same time.

The garden is the heart of the wedding setting.

It is large enough to accommodate a wedding tent and can be arranged with areas for the ceremony, dinner, dancing and a bar. Mature trees and the surrounding heritage architecture create the backdrop, giving couples the freedom to bring in the design elements they want without losing the feeling of the property underneath them.

That freedom carries into the rest of the planning as well.

Walkerville Distillery House allows couples to bring their own caterer, florist, tent company, photographer, DJ or band rather than requiring a fixed list of in-house services. For the couple who has already fallen in love with a particular caterer, wants a very specific style or simply prefers to build the wedding themselves, that flexibility can be a major part of the appeal.

But perhaps the most interesting feature is what happens around the wedding itself.

The estate includes two separate heritage homes that can be used by the wedding party and family. That gives everyone somewhere to actually settle in.
