The Millennium Centre

The Millennium Centre is the kind of wedding venue where the room gets its own entrance.

In Winnipeg's historic Exchange District, the former Bank of Commerce has been standing on Main Street since 1912, carrying more than a century of stories behind its grand neoclassical walls.

Then you walk into Celebration Hall.

The ceiling rises almost impossibly high above the room.

Fifty feet overhead, an enormous stained-glass dome crowns the space, surrounded by the columns and classical details of a building created during an age when banks were designed to look monumental.

Today, instead of bankers and ledgers, the hall fills with flowers, music and as many as 220 wedding guests.

And somehow the grandeur works beautifully with romance.

The room does not need to be persuaded to feel special.

It already does.

An aisle appears beneath the dome.

Guests turn in their chairs.

The music begins and suddenly a building that has watched Winnipeg change for more than a century is holding completely still for one small moment.

Then the ceremony becomes a celebration.
