Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28 is the kind of Humboldt wedding venue where the room is only the beginning.

This is a genuine community gathering place, with roots in Humboldt stretching back more than a century. The local veterans' organization was established after the First World War, and generations later, the Legion remains somewhere people come together for everything from community events to wedding celebrations.

Its hall can welcome up to 368 guests, making it particularly useful for couples whose wedding guest list includes a wonderfully large collection of family, friends and people who have known them for years.

There is a generous stage with room for a large band, which opens up the possibility of live music becoming a real part of the night rather than being squeezed into a corner. A wet bar can also be provided, and couples have flexibility around dinner, with catering available through the Legion or the option to bring in another caterer.

But a Legion wedding has never really been about pretending the hall is something it is not.

The romance comes from what couples do with it.

An empty community hall begins to change.

Tables are dressed. Flowers arrive. Family photographs appear. The stage waits for music and suddenly a familiar Humboldt gathering place looks completely different.

Then the people arrive and finish the transformation.

Dinner fills the room with conversation. Someone takes the microphone. Stories begin, glasses are raised and eventually chairs start emptying as everyone moves toward the dance floor.

There is something particularly lovely about celebrating somewhere that already belongs to the community.

Long before your wedding, people gathered here for one another.
