Rivers Edge Resort is built around the idea that a wedding deserves more than one hurried day. About 45 minutes east of Winnipeg, the resort sits on five manicured riverfront acres and specializes in weekend wedding packages, giving couples time to arrive, celebrate and actually enjoy the place they chose.

At the centre is a 40-by-80-foot timber-frame pavilion with room for up to 233 guests. Two cabins sit along the gently moving river and are included in the wedding experience, creating places to get ready, pause between photographs and stay close to the celebration. The newlyweds can spend the wedding night in Robin's Perch overlooking the riverfront.

The property allows the different chapters of the day to remain together: preparations in the cabins, ceremony against the gently moving river setting, photographs across the picturesque grounds and dinner beneath the pavilion's post-and-beam structure.

There is something wonderfully generous about having a whole weekend. Nobody is trying to turn an empty venue into a wedding in two frantic hours. Instead, the celebration has time to settle into the property, until the gently moving river, pavilion and cabins all feel like part of the family's story, leaving the kind of warm, romantic memory that feels almost storybook long after the last dance.
