Prairie Ridge Resort feels like the kind of place a couple escapes to when they want the river, the orchard and the night sky to do most of the talking.

The property is a family run glamping resort and apple orchard on 46 acres in the Petrofka Valley, set on the North Saskatchewan River roughly forty minutes' drive north from Saskatoon. Guests stay in luxury domes or the Cottonwood Cabin, with dome names like Moonlight, Stardust, Honeybee, Dragonfly, Willow and Spruce, ranging from two-person hideaways to family-sized domes.

Days here unfold slowly: walking trails, the riverfront beach, hammocks, bird watching and the cedar barrel sauna. Firewood is included, pets are welcome in some units, and boat trips on the river, guided river fishing and paddler pick up can be added on.

Weddings and events are not described on the resort's site, so this is a setting rather than a ballroom. For a couple who want a small, quiet gathering of the people they love most, with domes under the stars and the river a short walk away, Prairie Ridge has the kind of backdrop that needs no decorating.
