McLean Mill National Historic Site

McLean Mill is for couples who want their wedding to feel as though it was discovered somewhere in the Vancouver Island forest.

Outside Port Alberni, the National Historic Site preserves nearly a century of British Columbia's logging history among old wooden buildings, machinery and towering West Coast greenery.

On wedding days, that history becomes the backdrop to something entirely new.

Couples can choose a ceremony location within the historic site, allowing as many as around 150 guests to gather outside among the forest and heritage buildings.

There is no need to manufacture rustic character here.

It is already everywhere.

Weathered timber.

Old structures.

Forest paths.

Pieces of another era tucked into the landscape.

And once the vows are finished, the entire village becomes somewhere to wander for photographs.

Then everyone finds their way toward McLean Hall.

The timber-built hall can accommodate around 90 to 100 guests indoors, while the adjoining courtyard creates room for the celebration to breathe beyond its walls.

Outside, a three-tiered forest terrace becomes part of the reception too.

Dinner can spill into the courtyard.

Guests can gather beneath the trees.

And dancing does not have to stay confined to four walls.

Couples are also given time before the wedding to decorate and prepare the spaces, while tables, chairs and kitchen access are available with the venue's fuller wedding experiences.

That gives the day a rare feeling.

Not simply renting a room for six hours.

Taking over a tiny historic world for the wedding.

Then night reaches the forest.

The old buildings become silhouettes.

Lights glow around the courtyard and terrace.

Music carries out from McLean Hall.

And somewhere in a place built to preserve stories from British Columbia's past, everybody has gathered to watch the beginning of yours.
