There are wedding days that feel less like an event and more like disappearing into another world together. Island Lake Lodge offers exactly that kind of beginning, tucked into 7,000 acres of mountain wilderness outside Fernie, where old-growth forest, alpine scenery and the Lizard Range surround the people who have come to watch two lives become one.

The ceremony can unfold beside the serene lake at the lodge's I Dew Point, with the mountains rising beyond the vows. The wedding experience is built as a two-day celebration with exclusive access to the lodges and indoor facilities, allowing the story to stretch beyond a single afternoon. Current wedding packages are designed for 60 to 100 guests, creating a gathering large enough for a joyful room but intimate enough that the weekend can still feel deeply personal.

The landscape is only part of what makes the stay memorable. Guests can canoe on the serene lake, explore hiking and biking trails, wander among ancient cedar trees or spend time at the spa, hot pool and cedar barrel sauna. The property's three timber-frame lodges contain 26 guest rooms, and the culinary team prepares meals across the wedding weekend, including the reception dinner and other hosted meals.

It is easy to picture why couples choose to stay here for more than the ceremony. The wedding morning begins in the mountains. The vows are spoken beside still water. Dinner gathers everyone back together, and later the lodge fills with music while the wilderness outside turns dark and quiet.
