Christie's Mill gives couples a very Muskoka problem to have.

It may be difficult to convince everyone to go home.

Set on the water in Port Severn, the intimate resort brings the ceremony, reception, accommodation and the quieter parts of a wedding weekend together in one place.

In warmer weather, vows can happen outside beside the lake.

The water becomes the backdrop without needing to be dressed up, and once the ceremony ends, the resort grounds give couples somewhere to disappear for photographs while guests begin settling into the celebration.

Inside, the Grand Lakeside Ballroom keeps the view close.

Floor-to-ceiling windows look toward the water, while crystal chandeliers bring a little evening polish to a room that welcomes celebrations of up to around 90 guests.

That size feels particularly suited to a resort like this.

There are enough people for a proper party, but not so many that the wedding loses the feeling of everyone having escaped to the lake together.

And they really can stay together.

Christie's Mill has 41 guest rooms as well as a private three-bedroom cottage, allowing family and friends to turn the invitation into an overnight stay. A full-service spa gives wedding morning, or the day after, another way to slow down.

Then the formal celebration begins.

The lake is outside the windows.

Dinner reaches the tables.

The speeches start.

Eventually the chandeliers are glowing against black glass because the waterfront has disappeared into the night.

By morning, it returns.

And so do the guests, slightly quieter than they were on the dance floor, gathering again beside the same water where the wedding began.
