There is something powerful about beginning a marriage inside a building devoted to human stories.

Rising above The Forks in Winnipeg, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights gives couples a wedding setting filled with soaring architecture, glass, stone, light and extraordinary views across the city.

And the ceremony can happen in places unlike almost anywhere else.

For an intimate wedding, up to 80 guests can gather high above Winnipeg on the Level 6 terrace, surrounded by the Museum's glass cloud and looking out across the Prairie skyline.

For something larger, the Stuart Clark Garden of Contemplation can welcome up to 200 people.

Here, basalt columns, Tyndall stone, tropical greenery and natural light surround the ceremony, creating a setting that feels both architectural and alive.

Then everyone comes together for the celebration.

Bonnie & John Buhler Hall can seat up to 350 for dinner, with space for a stage and dance floor when the carefully planned part of the evening finally gives way to the party.

Smaller receptions can remain within the Garden of Contemplation or move into other spaces throughout the Museum.

And the building itself becomes part of the experience.

Ramps curve through enormous volumes of glass and stone.

Terraces look across Winnipeg.

Light changes through the architecture as afternoon becomes evening.

The Museum's wedding team helps carry couples through the practical pieces too, with planning meetings, a rehearsal, on-site coordination and room setup built into the wedding experience.

Food is handled by the Museum's in-house catering team, bringing dinner into a celebration already surrounded by one of Winnipeg's most distinctive buildings.

But eventually everyone stops looking at the architecture.

The ceremony begins.

Two people find one another at the end of the aisle.
