At Calabogie Peaks, couples face a rather lovely wedding-day decision.

Lake or mountain?

Set between Calabogie Lake and Dickson Mountain, the resort gives a wedding two very different versions of the Canadian landscape without asking guests to travel between them.

The most enchanting ceremony setting may be the private island.

Reached by its own bridge, the little island sits on Calabogie Lake with log pews facing the water. Guests cross over for the ceremony, and for a little while the wedding feels wonderfully removed from everything beyond the shoreline.

Or the mountains can take over instead.

Ceremonies at the base of Dickson Mountain trade water for rolling hills and the dramatic rise of the landscape behind the vows.

Then everyone comes together indoors.

The Madawaska Room keeps things intimate for around 60 guests, with a fireplace and mountain views. Black Donald's Room can welcome around 100 beneath 25-foot windows, with patio access keeping the scenery close. For a larger celebration, the Annex and Algonquin Hall can combine for receptions of up to 210.

Because Calabogie Peaks is also a resort, nobody has to disappear when the music stops.

Guests can stay in lodge rooms, suites or condos and turn the invitation into a proper escape from the city.

The next morning, the lake and mountain are still there.

Only now everyone has stories from the night before.
