Bogey's Inn & Venue

At Bogey's Inn, the St. Clair River has a habit of finding its way into the wedding.

It appears beyond the ballroom windows, behind the patio and across the ceremony space, giving the celebration a waterfront backdrop without asking everyone to leave the property between the vows and dinner.

Outside, the two-tier patio leads toward a gazebo and deck overlooking the river. Up to 200 guests can gather for a ceremony there, turning that first walk toward one another into a moment framed by open water and sky.

Then the wedding moves inside.

The ballroom welcomes up to 175 guests and feels warm rather than overly formal, with hardwood and slate floors, a stone fireplace and a wall of sliding glass doors that keeps the lawns, gazebo and river in sight. An adjoining bar creates another place for guests to gather, while on-site catering keeps dinner within the venue itself.

It is easy to imagine the rhythm of the day here.

The ceremony happens beside the water.

Guests linger outside while photographs are taken.

Then the glass doors lead everyone toward dinner, speeches and the increasingly less organized portion of the evening.

And when the dancing finally ends, accommodations are right beside the venue.

That may be one of Bogey's quiet advantages. A waterfront wedding can feel like a little escape without becoming complicated for the people invited to it.

By evening, the river that formed the backdrop to the vows has gone dark beyond the windows.

Inside, the fireplace is glowing and nobody is paying much attention to the view anymore.

The dance floor has taken over.
