Archeo

Toronto's Distillery District has a way of becoming especially beautiful when evening begins.

The brick darkens, the old buildings start to glow and strings of lights appear above the walkways.

Tucked inside that historic landscape is Archeo, a wedding venue where the romance of the Distillery does not stop at the front door.

The indoor space began life as a 19th-century carpentry shop. Today, its high pine ceilings and exposed brick surround weddings with the history of the original building, while its bar and dining tables are made from timber reclaimed from the Distillery site itself.

Nothing about it feels like a ballroom trying to look old.

It actually is old.

Then the doors open onto Archeo's private courtyard patio.

Flowers surround the space and a canopy of lights hangs overhead, creating the kind of setting that seems to become more romantic as daylight disappears. The courtyard is large enough to feel like its own outdoor room, making it possible for a ceremony or cocktail hour to happen beneath the lights before everyone gathers inside.

Archeo can host approximately 128 guests for a seated celebration and up to around 140 for a cocktail-style event. Distillery Events also supports couples with event coordination and catering, allowing much of the wedding to remain centred around the same team and space.

But one of the loveliest things about marrying here may happen outside the venue entirely.

A newly married couple can slip away into the Distillery's brick lanes while their guests are having cocktails, walking through one of Toronto's most recognizable historic neighbourhoods with the noise of their wedding somewhere behind them.

A few photographs. A few quiet minutes.

Then back through the courtyard, beneath the lights, and into a room filled with everyone waiting to celebrate them.

For couples who want Toronto around them but still want their wedding to feel intimate, warm and unmistakably romantic, Archeo gives the city a softer side.
