Albert County Museum

At the Albert County Museum, a wedding can unfold inside buildings that were already part of New Brunswick history long before anyone wrote your names on a seating chart.

The museum's 1904 Albert County Court House gives the ceremony a setting with real presence. Rather than trying to make a modern room look historic for the day, couples are stepping into the genuine article, surrounded by the character of the old Shiretown site in Hopewell Cape.

And the story does not have to end when the ceremony does.

The nearby Hopewell Cape Community Hall dates to 1870 and can become the reception space, seating up to 99 guests, or around 80 for a lunch or dinner celebration.

There is something wonderfully fitting about moving from one historic building to another as the wedding changes mood.

The Court House holds the anticipation.

The vows are spoken.

Everyone spills back outside.

Then the Community Hall becomes the place where formality begins giving way to food, stories and the people who have known the couple longest.

The hall has full kitchen facilities and can be decorated within the site's guidelines, giving couples room to bring their own colours and personality into a building that already carries more than a century of its own.

The Court House can also be used for wedding photographs, keeping another piece of the day within the historic surroundings.

This is not a ballroom pretending to belong to another era.

The floors, walls and buildings have been here through generations of Albert County life.
