Some celebrations need room to grow, and in downtown Nanaimo the Vancouver Island Conference Centre has space for a wedding of almost any size.
The award-winning centre sits in the heart of downtown Nanaimo and operates under a mandate from the City of Nanaimo. It offers about 38,000 square feet of event space, along with a skywalk and a landscaped courtyard where guests can step outside.
The centre offers ceremony, dinner and reception settings, so the whole day can unfold under one roof. Hand-blown glass pendant lighting gives the rooms a warm glow.
For the largest celebrations, the Mt Benson Ballroom covers about 13,700 square feet with 20-foot ceilings. It seats up to approximately 960 guests for a banquet, or around 900 with a dance floor.
Smaller weddings can use rooms such as the Nanaimo River Room, which seats about 110 for a banquet or 90 with a dance floor, or the Dodd Narrows Room, which seats about 140 for a banquet or 120 with a dance floor. The team can also set aside an intimate bridal room and a pre-event cocktail area.
Food is crafted on site by the Executive Chef with fresh, local ingredients, drawing on West Coast, local First Nations and international cuisine. Menus are created for each couple, with table-side service, roving hors d'oeuvres or cocktail stations.
Wedding packages can include an event planner to manage the details, a complimentary day room for getting ready with the bridal party, a wedding kit of day-of essentials, the couple's name in lights and audio-visual and lighting packages.
Downtown Nanaimo's accommodations, restaurants and shops are all within reach, so travelling guests can make a weekend of it.
For couples who want a downtown celebration with planning, catering and every room they need under one roof, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre offers flexible space and a team ready to bring it all together.
