The Rose Bay Homestead

At the Rose Bay Homestead, a wedding weekend unfolds across fields, forest and a sheltered cove on the Atlantic, with sunsets watched from the old boathouse deck.

The property covers 32 acres of field and forest near Lunenburg on Nova Scotia's South Shore. A path leads from the 150-year-old farmhouse across the road and through a field down to a rocky beach on Rose Bay, and forest trails wind behind the house toward a protected conservation area.

Weddings and events for up to 100 guests can rent the homestead for three nights, with more nights available. The field behind the barn suits a tented celebration, and the barn has electricity with lighting and outlets.

The ocean-facing farmhouse sleeps up to 13, with an open living and dining area, a dining table for 14 and a long sunny deck. A rustic glamping bed in the boathouse and a canvas teepee add more places to sleep, and fire circles sit both behind the house and by the beach.

Two of the province's best beaches are a few minutes' drive away, and historic Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is about 15 minutes away. Kayaks and a canoe can be rented for exploring the cove.

Tours of the property can be arranged for couples who want to walk the land first.
