Steckle Heritage Farm

At Steckle Heritage Farm, couples can exchange vows in an orchard and then celebrate under the hand-hewn beams of a bank barn raised in 1840.

John and Esther (Bleams) Steckle settled the farm in 1833, and today it is a designated heritage property of the City of Kitchener, run as a non-profit since 1988. Its 10.2 acres hold the original buildings, the barn and working crops, all within the city.

Ceremonies take place in the orchard, with the farm's crops on the other side of the walking path. The barn's post and beam frame is striking from the moment guests step inside, and as evening falls, the setting sun to the west filters through the barn boards. A newer roof keeps the barn completely dry, so it can serve for both the ceremony and reception if the weather turns. As an original heritage barn, it is not heated or cooled.

Weddings run from May to October, with seating for up to 180 guests. On Fridays and Sundays, smaller celebrations are welcome with no minimum guest count or catering minimum.

The barn is a blank canvas. A full-day rental includes 22 custom eight-foot harvest tables and the pieces in the farm's decor booklet at no extra cost. There are three washrooms inside the barn plus outdoor washrooms by the orchard, and a staff member and security are on site through the day.

Food and drink come from a short list of approved local caterers, who also handle the bar. Dogs on a leash are welcome to join the ceremony. The parking lot holds about 65 vehicles a short walk from the barn, and priority parking can be arranged for guests with mobility needs.

For couples who picture an orchard ceremony and a sunset glowing through old barn boards, Steckle Heritage Farm offers a rustic wedding rooted in real Ontario history.
