Southern Lakes Resort & Restaurant

At Southern Lakes Resort, a wedding unfolds on the quiet shore of Tagish Lake, with boreal forest all around and the Coast Mountains rising in the distance.

The resort sits on a calm side arm of the lake near Tagish, on land with a long Yukon story. During the Gold Rush it served as a roadhouse known as Ten Mile Ranch, where travellers, horses and dog teams stopped to eat and rest. Later homesteaders grew famously large vegetables here and sold them to the steamboats on the lake, and their old root cellar still stands on the property. Today the ranch has been rebuilt and reopened as a resort.

Couples can rent both the restaurant and the bar for a private wedding celebration. The lakeside dining room has panoramic windows looking over the water, and a garden patio invites guests outside on long summer afternoons.

The kitchen is led by a chef with Swiss roots who cooks seasonal dishes with local ingredients wherever possible, and the resort is fully licensed. The team asks couples to get in touch well ahead of the date to plan the details.

Guests can stay right on site in traditional log cabins, spacious lakeview villas with king beds, a family loft cabin, and a cedar log retreat with a private hot tub on its veranda. From mid August, clear dark nights can bring the Northern Lights over the shore.

Between celebrations, guests can paddle a canoe or kayak, hike trails with views over Windy Arm, join a guided ATV tour or head out fishing for lake trout and grayling.
