Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead

A wedding at the Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead feels like an intimate family gathering in an 1850s farmhouse, with old linden trees shading the lawn.

The centre gabled house was built in 1856 and bought by the Macphail family in 1864. It was the boyhood home of Sir Andrew Macphail, a physician, writer and the first professor of the history of medicine at McGill University, who was knighted for his service in the First World War.

The homestead was donated to the government in 1961 and, after years standing empty, was fully restored. It is now cared for by a non profit organization in Orwell, near Vernon River.

The Great Room holds up to 40 guests, and the veranda seats 24 or more. Outdoors, picnic tables sit under the linden trees, and hiking trails wind into the surrounding woods, giving couples both indoor and outdoor options.

Intimate weddings of around 40 people are welcome, with event rentals offered from April to December and catering available from March to November.
