Light streams through stained glass, old hardwood glows underfoot, and a small country church becomes the setting for one of the most important moments of a life.
The Ottawa Wedding Chapel stands on Yorks Corners Road in the village of Kenmore, about 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Built in 1907, the chapel has been restored and is now a non-denominational wedding venue, open to all people and all traditions.
Inside, the chapel features restored hardwood floors and antique wood furnishings, with 12 stained glass windows on the main floor and six more in the lower reception area. It was built using mixed hardwood, mostly white pine and butternut, and has superb natural acoustics.
Ceremonies can welcome from two to around 150 guests, with seating for up to approximately 100 in the pews and 50 more in the overflow. The building is air conditioned, and wi-fi is available for couples who want to live stream their ceremony.
The chapel comes seasonally decorated, and couples are welcome to add their own touches. The Saturday package includes an on-site coordinator to welcome the wedding party, direct guests and handle late arrivals, and licensed officiants are available through All Seasons Weddings. Rehearsals can also be held at the chapel.
After the vows, the celebration can continue on site. The chapel can host a champagne toast or a cocktail reception for up to approximately 65 guests, with a charcuterie board style menu, and small groups of up to around 32 can be seated for a meal on the lower level through its catering partner.
The yard offers some lovely spots for photographs, and parking is available on the street, in the chapel's lot two doors down and in a free municipal lot across the street.
For larger receptions, the Kenmore Community Centre sits right across the street, so a couple might marry in the chapel and simply walk over to celebrate.
For couples who want a meaningful ceremony in a historic country chapel close to Ottawa, the Ottawa Wedding Chapel offers a setting full of warmth, light and quiet elegance.
