Nelles Manor

Some places have been gathering people together for more than two centuries. Nelles Manor is one of them.

Built in 1798, Nelles Manor Museum on Main Street West in Grimsby is a heritage house and War of 1812 battlefield site. Over its long history the Manor has hosted balls, military commemorations and weddings, and it continues that tradition today.

The museum welcomes intimate weddings and vow renewals. Couples can exchange vows outside on the manor grounds and sign their documents in the drawing room, or hold the entire ceremony inside the drawing room itself.

This is a truly small celebration. Ceremonies are limited to 10 people in total, including the couple and their two witnesses, plus the officiant and photographer.

Photography and video are welcome throughout the ceremony, so the moment can be captured against the backdrop of a house that has seen generations of family history.

To keep the historic setting protected, décor is kept simple. A bouquet or corsage is welcome, while alcohol, candles, confetti and larger décor items are not permitted.

The museum shares a list of local officiants to help couples plan, and a valid Ontario marriage licence and two witnesses are required.
