Mrs. Mitchell's Restaurant

A wedding at Mrs. Mitchell's Restaurant feels like a summer garden party in the Headwaters countryside, with swans gliding on the pond and dinner served in a schoolhouse from the 1800s.

The restaurant sits in Violet Hill in the township of Mulmur, in a restored 19th century schoolhouse beside the family home, and the family has been hosting weddings here for more than twenty years.

Ceremonies take place outdoors on the grounds, among lush perennial gardens, stone statues and archways, a shady pergola and a wooden footbridge over a pond that is home to a pair of swans. Couples who prefer a church service can get help arranging one at a nearby place of worship.

After the vows, guests gather for cocktails in the garden before moving into the schoolhouse dining room for dinner. The venue welcomes up to 75 guests, for a lunch or dinner wedding.

Menus are homemade and planned with the event team to suit each couple, with choices such as smoked salmon, homemade soups, lobster and shrimp, Cornish hen or prime rib, and desserts like cheesecake and truffle torte. Wine, beer, champagne or a signature cocktail can round out the meal.

Special touches such as arriving by horse-drawn carriage or sleigh can be arranged, and the team can suggest places to stay nearby and help with transportation.
