Maison Maitland

At Maison Maitland, two people can marry beside the St. Lawrence River at a Georgian stone manor that feels like a corner of the European countryside.

The manor was built in 1828 for George Longley and designed by a British architect. Once known as Maplehurst Manor, it is a fine example of Neoclassical and Regency design, set on five acres in Maitland, the oldest continuous village in Ontario, a few kilometres east of Brockville.

The estate specializes in elopements and vow renewals for up to eight people, including the couple. Ceremonies can take place at the Waterview Pavilion on the front lawn or on the front staircase in the warmer months, or in the manor's elegant living room by the fireplace among period antiques.

Couples stay two nights in one of the villas built within the stone walls of the original carriage house, with original beams, two king bedrooms, a chef's kitchen and a large living area.

The stay includes breakfast baskets each morning, a celebration charcuterie board and a bottle of sparkling wine for a toast. A preferred wedding planner arranges the officiant, photographer and flowers.
