At Kitchen Sync, a wedding unfolds on the lower level of a historic building, surrounded by Tyndall stone, brick and great timber beams with daylight pouring through tall windows.
The venue occupies the lower level of the historic Bell Building in downtown Winnipeg, right at the edge of the Exchange District and its remarkable collection of heritage architecture. It opened in 2015 as a private event space with a full professional kitchen.
The room keeps its original stone and brick walls, and long timbers stretch from one end to the other. The natural light also makes it a favourite with photographers and videographers.
Kitchen Sync is licensed for 90 people including staff and vendors, and seats up to 60 for a dinner. Packages give couples the private room for up to six hours, with planning consultation, vendor coordination, set up help and basic décor depending on the level chosen. Ceremonies earlier in the day can be added.
Couples bring in a licensed, full-service caterer, who works in the commercial kitchen with plenty of refrigeration. All drinks are served by the venue's own staff, and the higher packages include one or two signature cocktails or mocktails made by hand. A PA system with music playlists is part of the upper packages.
Out of respect for neighbours upstairs, last call is at 11:30 PM and the evening wraps up at midnight. A little free parking sits behind the building, with three surface lots nearby, and the space is wheelchair accessible.
For couples who picture an intimate downtown dinner among old stone walls and warm wood, Kitchen Sync offers a personal city wedding with real heritage character.
