Kings Landing

At Kings Landing, a wedding steps back into the 1800s, with a horse and buggy, a country church and an English garden on the banks of the Wolastoq.

This open-air museum sits on a bend of the Saint John River about 20 minutes west of Fredericton. It opened in 1974 with historic buildings saved during the building of the Mactaquac Dam, and today it is a living history village of rural nineteenth century New Brunswick spread over more than 300 acres.

Couples can marry in St. Mark's Anglican Church, built in the 1850s, with wooden arches, a stained glass window and seating for about 50. The Riverside Presbyterian Church, a 1920s country church with a rustic wooden ceiling, sits on a bend in the road that winds down to the river. The Barn Theatre, a rustic barn on the riverbank, seats up to 125.

Outdoor ceremonies can take place at the Lint Farm among barns, trees and pasture, in the garden beside the King's Head Inn, or behind the Ingraham Garden, where guests step through a hedge into a colourful English style garden by the water. Apple orchards and farm fields offer more spots for vows and photos.

Receptions and rehearsal dinners are held at the King's Head Inn, set in 1855, where costumed staff serve a family style or plated three course dinner. The Simeon Jones Room seats up to 100 and the Holyoke Double Parlour suits an intimate group of 26.

Historic homes serve as dressing rooms, and a wagon ride can carry the couple and guests through the village. Weddings are offered daily from June to October.
