John R. Park Homestead

At the John R. Park Homestead, couples can exchange vows on a green lawn above Lake Erie, framed by red barns, split rail fences and a white 19th century farmhouse.

The homestead was the home of John and Amelia Park and is now a living history museum of rural life, cared for by the Essex Region Conservation Authority on the Lake Erie shore near Colchester.

The waterfront grounds offer a colourful backdrop of mid-1800s buildings, gardens and an orchard overlooking the lake. A grounds rental suits events of about 150 and includes the auditorium as a climate-controlled gathering space for the wedding party.

The new Conservation Centre has a bright room with views across the western basin of Lake Erie, seating 60 at tables, plus a kitchen, reception area and covered patio. Renting the full site opens everything for celebrations of up to 300 guests.

Add-ons include a rustic arbour, wine barrels with floral arrangements, wooden benches and linens. A garden party option brings a costumed guide to lead guests through the house between the ceremony and reception.
