Hume Hotel

A wedding at the Hume Hotel carries more than a century of Nelson stories, celebrated inside the town's grand old heritage hotel.

J. Fred and Lydia Hume opened the hotel on March 17, 1898, after architect Alexander Charles Ewart designed it for the pioneering Nelson family. It was later reshaped in 1929, restored in 1980 after years of decline, and returned to its original name in 2005 to honour its roots.

Today the boutique hotel stands in the heart of downtown Nelson, mixing antique character with modern rooms.

Two large rooms host wedding receptions: the Hume Room and the Spiritbar, which comes with a stage and audiovisual equipment for speeches, bands and dancing.

The hotel's own team handles custom catering and menus, and can even travel to other locations as a mobile caterer. Tables, chairs, silverware, glassware and china are available to rent.

Getting ready is easy on site. The Aura Spa offers massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and professional hair and makeup, and guests can unwind afterwards in the firelit Library Lounge with live jazz.
